Westgate & Birchington Golf Club sits on the Kentish coast, on the Isle of Thanet. On opening in 1893 there were only 6 holes to be played with another three being added by 1908. By 1924 the course had be expanded to 18 holes and the clubhouse was in place. Upon the opening of the clubhouse the 18 holes were coupled with 22 tennis courts making it one of the most popular sporting venues in the area. The tennis courts are no longer in operation but the golf remains and is as enjoyable as ever. The course at Westgate & Birchington Golf Club is one of the UK’s few clifftop based courses and, as you can imagine, this position affords some spectacular sea views. The primary protection against low scoring on the course is the prevailing wind and due to the creative design the wind will meet you at all angles through the round. A steady and controlled round of golf along with an imaginative short game will need to be played for a low score.
